picking up the pace, but not long enough

so today's run was eh...when i was running i was going fast, i felt like i was going the speed i go sprinting, only without as much exertion. BUT i couldn't keep it up, obviously, and when i slowed down the pace to jog i felt awkward and uncomfortable, so a bit of walking. Tomorrow I'm going to run a mile straight through, NO WALKING. end of discussion I can do it!

36:07

decided today that I am going to one super week with running and go everyday. This is my first week of school so I want to get used to getting up early and get used to my schedule and how my body will feel throughout the day. It'll be easier if this is from the start than trying to do it a week or two into school. I've also planned out my running schedule from now until thanksgiving, put it in my planner and put what time and everything, so I have to hold myself accountable, every time I open my calendar I'll be reminded of how much I should be running and when. Also next week I'm starting the program I found online as a 5k training program. Hopefully this week off extra runs help out and don't make me end up injured.
Today I decided to run in the evening, because I was majorly hung over this morning. I was successful though, went 3/4 of a mile straight running without stopping and finished a 5k with the time of 36:07. This is an amazing time for me! I didn't think I'd be this far along this early. Looks like it is possible to have a competetive time by october.

7:40 mile

did a mile in 7:40, from what i hear that's a pretty good time, so I'm proud. Today's run was yuck, shin pain like woah, out of nowhere...had to ice when I got home, so hopefully I won't be sore all day.
I set up my run schedule up until thanksgiving today in my school planner, if it's written and there's times scheduled for it I have to do it.
Also setting a little challenge for my first week of school, running everyday, 2-3miles, so we'll see how that goes.

half a mile

so i broke a mental barrier today, finally and ran the first 1/2 mile straight through. BIG accomplishment for me! I usually run one quarter than walk about one quarter, but today I just pushed and did a 1/2 straight through, walked a quarter, ran a quarter, walked one more and then did another half running, followed by an easy walk of the last quarter. I know, not much to some, but a big improvement to me. I now agree and know what people mean when they say running is mental as well as physical, it was more of me just telling myself to keep going, there wasn't even pain, too much, in my muscles, my breathing was a bit hard, but once I got a rythm there I was. My only regret is that I was unmotivated to run, so I put it off and didn't have enough daylight to do another mile.
This is a great way to come back from the disapointing excursion, running wise, on saturday.
I think since I have thursday off, I'll do two runs. A mile, timed, to see how fast and if I can do it straight through in the morning, and then the 5k at night.

down by the river

so i didn't wake up as early as I planned by the time I went down to run it was noon. But I packed up snuffles and tried trail running by the river. Ouch! My little feet and shins are not used to the uneven surfaces. The heat was wearing on us, so there was a lot of walking rather than running. Took a little break in the middle and let snuffles play at the dog park. It was an adventure of a day, but not too much actual running.

twice as nice

two runs today! woo go me! after dinner at the parents the weather was near perfect and the timing was so perfect I had to go for another run...feels great! But I really think I need new shoes soon

40:17

I decided today that I need to run the full 5k distance every run. At first I was alternating between 2 and 3 miles, trying to improve my speed, but now I think I need to focus more on building endurance. Seeing as how I can't run the full distance I think I should work on building up to being able to do the full 5k, then work on speed.
I put off today's run until 3 in the afternoon, not so smart. The heat was way too much for me, I ended up walking a lot of it, and snuffles was having some difficulty with the heat too. But still finished it in 40 minutes, so I shaved off 5 minutes from my time last month. At this rate I can be under 30 by october, I think.

too many puppies

I've been running with snuffles since I decided to start running, but I felt like I've been neglecting my big dog dime and sin, so bright idea, let's take all three at once. PAH...no running to be done, the dogs couldn't organize and keep up but difficult none the less. My arms have never been so sore on a run before, from pulling the leashes back. The three of them together just get too riled up. Back to just running with snuffles. Possibly fit in a run before my double tomorrow

It begins

I officially registered for the Duke City Marathon 5k today. Something I've decided to do for a couple of months, but didn't actually register incase I wanted to back out. I think that now that I've paid the 25 bucks I will have more motivation to actually do it. Though I have been doing some training for a month or so, I thought it would be fitting to start this journal today, when it is official that I am participating. 11 weeks from now is the race and I'm hoping to finish under 30 minutes. Now I know this may seem like a week goal to most, but currently I do it about 45, so this will be a big improvement. Based on last year's results under 30 would put me in the top 15, top half of my division. Top time last year in my division was 22:09. I am not looking to place, obviously, but it is important to me to do my best and give my best. This is a symbolic race for me, on the anniversary of my grandmother's death from cancer, the proceeds benefit the New Mexico Cancer Center, which I have worked with previously.
I'm hoping to use this blog, seperate from my other online personalities, but possibly in conjuction, to post my mileage, my goals, and to gain motivation. I invite anyone else to join.
